Ilya Repin's painting, "Reply of the Zaporozhian Cossacks to Sultan Mehmed IV of Ottoman Empire" is one of Russia's most famous works of art. It took a stunning 11 years to complete and is on exhibit in the State Museum of Russia.
The painting depicts the cossacks composing their legendary reply, replete with insults and profanities, to the Turkish Sultan's decree that they submit to Turkish rule in the 17th century. During Repin's time, the cossacks enjoyed great popularity and Repin also admired them.
So exquisite is this meticulous first reproduction of the Zaporozhian Cossack, the painting's most fascinating figure, that it appears to have walked out of Ilya Repin's painting. A rare opportunity to the serious collector to own a first edition of this exceptional figurine.
