Commemorative ceramic plaque:  Demjansk Pocket — Ilmensee, made by Meisson.  Instituted by Walter von Brockdorff-Ahlefeldt, commander of 2 Armeekorps in 1942 year. The plaque has been awarded to brave officers as a commemoration of the service in Demjansk pocket.  Graf von Brockdorff-Ahlefeldt fell ill in November 1942 and returned back to Germany.  In April, 1942 the Demjansk pocket has been broken through.  In June, 1942 Graf von Brockdorff-Ahlefeldt  was awarded with Oakleaves to the Knights Cross. To express his gratitude to his officers, «brothers in arms», he ordered these commemorative plaques. He died in a hospital in Berlin in 9th Mai of 1943.  The quantity of recipients are unknown. Some of the plaques have been found  somewhere near Potsdam in an old ruined house.  Most of them have been damaged, and just several  survived in such a good condition. The plaque shows  Russian towns  in Demjansk pocket:  Tschudowo, Nowgorod, Schmisk, Staraja Russa, Demjansk, Waldai Hohen, and Cholm. It's named:  «Jlmensee».  On the obverse we see German soldier in winter uniform at the frontline. Excellent condition. Very rare.
