Sleeve shield of the Finnish volunteers of the SS battalion «North-East» (SS-Freiwilligen Bataillon Nordost) or Suomalainen Waffen-SS-vapaaehtoispataljoona. Shield of the first type made in Finland. The first two types were manufactured in Finland. The first is a colored lion embroidered with yellow silk thread on a red background, as well as white flowers on the field of the shield. The second type shield repeated the design of the first type, only made on black material, but very different in manufacture from the German type. The third type, machine embroidery, was made in Eibenstock (Germany), a small town where most of the insignia of the Third Reich's were produced. There are some minor losses. Considering the number of conscripted of 1,407 men, and the fact that the unit was disbanded in the spring of 1943, and also the fact that many of the soldiers also carried shields of the first, second and third types. This shield is a rarity and a truly unique collectible. Below in the photo is an option for wearing a similar sleeve patch. This particular shield came to us from the Finnish collection, and at one time was received from the hands of a veteran of the unit.
